The Women and Girls We Serve
In 2015-2016, CWEIA's membership consisted of 134 members and 15 friend members from all Cree communities. According to 2011 data, Eeyou Istchee had 4,105 women aged 25 and over, plus 2,600 girls aged 0–14 and 1,415 aged 15–24, totalling 8,120 women and girls.
Cree women care for families: the 4,105 women collectively oversee 8,260 children and youth (2,815 boys aged 0–14 and 1,430 aged 15–24). CWEIA works for these women and also for the wellbeing of their children, to ensure family and community stability.
How We Are Organized
CWEIA is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a President, an Elder representative, a Youth representative, one representative from each of the 10 Cree communities, and one representative of urban Cree women from Senneterre, Chibougamau and Val-d'Or — sixteen directors in total, including five executives. Leadership receives guidance from the Goukumnouch Council, which includes four members alongside the Elder representative.
